Fantasia is a 1940 American animated film produced by Walt Disney and released by Walt Disney Productions. The third feature in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series, the film consists of eight animated segments set to pieces of classical music conducted by Leopold Stokowski, seven of which are performed by the Philadelphia Orchestra. Music critic and composer Deems Taylor introduces each segment in live-action interstitial scenes. Fantasia was first released in theatrical road show engagements held in thirteen US cities from November 13, 1940.
The dancing lights of the Aurora Borealis inspired this abstract concept art for the "Toccata and Fugue in D Minor", the opening segment in Fantasia.
